Classroom Community

Students will desire to learn after they feel like they belong in their school and classroom.  A strong classroom community provides a safe, comfortable atmosphere for all students so they can become successful learners. Even though this article was written for middle school and high school, I think that it is important for every classroom from preschool to college to have an atmosphere where students feel safe and comfortable. This will allow students to share their ideas more freely and to be more open to suggestions. This will also promote learning.

  4. This was very interesting! It is easy to overlook the relational side of teaching, especially in the upper grades, and focus on presenting the material only. But if students aren't engaged or motivated, it doesn't matter how hard a teacher tries. The idea of building community in the classroom like this is a perfect way to motivate and engage students as well as get to know them on a personal level and teach them more than just the subject matter.
